Self Discipline, Refinement & Happy Holidays

Self-Discipline and Refinement
Happy December everyone! How are you all being? Feeling? Functioning? Flowing? Not flowing? I found it interesting that I am writing about self-discipline and refinement around Christmas time. So many temptations, indulging, parties etc. It can be challenging to stay on track with your healthy lifestyle. My wish is that this newsletter inspires you to do your best and be gentle with yourself.
I felt inspired to write about this as since I got back from Africa, I feel like I have been in a process of refinement and seeing parts that need a little more self-discipline. One of the patterns I recognized about myself, is how I am afraid to make a mistake and the fear punishment. This process allowed me to dive into what self discipline and refinement really means on a deep level.
Self-Discipline is not punishment, it is devotion. It is the daily act of choosing the energy, habits, and environments that align with our highest truth, rather than our monetary comfort. Self-discipline is the spiritual bridge between knowing and becoming. It protects our vitality. It shapes our personal frequency. It filters out what drains, distracts or distorts. It strengthens our capacity to stay in integrity with what we say we want.
“Day by day, what you chose, what you think and what you do, is who you become” Yung Pueblo
When we resist self-discipline, it’s rarely laziness, it’s usually unhealed emotion, outdated identity, nervous system exhaustion, or unconscious fear of outgrowing who or what we’ve been attached to. The question is not: “Why can’t I stay disciplined?” But rather: “What part of me is still afraid of my own power?” Because full authentic expression requires energy, clean energy, focused energy, owned energy. Our truth requires a strong inner container to hold it, speak it, and live it without collapsing.
Self-discipline is how we tend to that inner fire. It is how we become trustworthy to our own soul. And so the invitation is gentle, not harsh. Notice what leaks your life force. Notice who or what scatters your presence. Notice where you numb instead of nurture. Notice which habits align with your future self, not your past self.
Refinement is not about perfection. It has taken me some time to learn this as perfectionism has been one of the patterns I get to experience. There has been a part of me that believes I have to be perfect in order to be loved, which ignited the fear of making mistakes. Refinement is about removing what dulls your spirit so that your essence, your true essence, can be seen, felt, and embodies without interference. Your authenticity is already inside you.
Do you notice how you can be really hard on yourself and constantly looking for things to make yourself wrong and others wrong? For myself, I find this energy to be very sneaky. Thank goodness for the awareness, the ability to self-reflect, and be really honest with myself.
